Experience the stories of Atlanta natives facing housing uncertainty, health crises, domestic violence, education issues, and consumer challenges with this one-of-a-kind exhibit. Picturing Justice, a photography exhibit presented by Atlanta Celebrates Photography and Atlanta Legal Aid Society, aims to shed light on these issues during a very special photography exhibition, now on view through November 30th.
Picturing Justice is an annual exhibition that explores how photography can illuminate the human stories that live behind such common shorthand as "case", "client" or "issue" so we can better experience, empathize and advocate for the lives that are improved by this important work.
This year's Picturing Justice features a group exhibition as well as a photo-essay, "Saving Grace," created by photographer Melissa Golden and writer Robin McDonald for the Bitter Southerner, an incredible multimedia magazine telling real stories about the American South.
This exhibit is made possible by Atlanta Legal Aid Society. The core of Legal Aid's mission is to help low-income people navigate the complexities of the court system at the most vulnerable times in their lives. Legal Aid's clients face evictions, health crises, foreclosure, domestic violence, education issues and consumer challenges that can only be solved with the help of a lawyer.
During its nine-decade history, Legal Aid represented Cuban refugees held without due process in the Atlanta federal penitentiary, coined the term predatory lending, pioneered legal services for people with AIDS and cancer, established the first medical-legal collaborative serving children in the Southeast and won a landmark Supreme Court case on behalf of people with disabilities.
Admission to see Picturing Justice is free. Free parking is available on-site.
