Although the COVID-19 pandemic is making it more difficult than ever to travel, it doesn’t prevent you from exploring all the fun to be had around Atlanta. With a little creativity, you can make your basic outing to a café or vineyard seem just as magical as a trip to Europe! Another perk of staying close to your apartment home? It doesn’t come with any sort of jetlag. Now, in our eighth month under strict coronavirus restrictions, you might be feeling a little antsy, to say the least. So, if you had to cancel your summer vacation and plan to stay put for the winter holidays, appease your inner travel bug and adventurer with these 3 escapes that are a couple of hours from the ATL!
Barnsley Resort (Adairsville)
Sure, Adairsville isn’t that far from Atlanta, but it can feel like a different world – making it the perfect spot to escape if you’re desperately in need of one. Located in Adairsville, you’ll find the highly acclaimed Barnsley Resort. This 3,000-acre property boasts a golf course, spa, and much more; however, if you ask any local, they will tell you it is the resort’s scenic gardens that make it worth the trip. A stroll through the garden and former mansion on the property is ripe for photo opportunities, and if you’re hungry, you can grab a bite on the veranda of the Woodlands Grill that overlooks the golf course on your way out! Not bad for a casual day out, if we do say so ourselves!
The Select & Café Vendôme (Sandy Springs)
If you’re missing the adventure of foreign travel, The Select & Café Vendôme may be the answer to your pining for lands outside of the great U.S. of A. The Select is Sandy Springs’ homage to Le Select, a famous brasserie in Paris that attracted the likes of famous ex-patriot artists, like Ernest Hemingway. You can sit on their patio and enjoy bites off their Mediterranean-inspired menu, along with a classic cocktail of your choice. Once you’re ready for dessert, head across the street to Café Vendôme, which has a vast selection of pastries, slices of bread, and other Parisian-inspired sweet and savory treats. Sounds like the perfect day spent “abroad,” huh?
Wolf Mountain Vineyards (Dahlonega)
Simply looking for greener pastures that differ from the views you have from your community’s patio or balcony? Well, hop on Interstate 400 going northward and don’t stop until you reach Wolf Mountain Vineyards. There, you’ll find stunning mountain views, lush landscapes, and of course, plenty of wine to be enjoyed. In fact, these vineyards grow red grapes on the property, which result in some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah in the great state of Georgia. Better yet, once you’ve had your fill of scenery and wine, you can dine at the vineyard’s on-site pizzeria or take a pie to-go for a picnic on your living room sofa later on in the evening. Either way, it’s a win-win.
